How do natural disasters impact culture?

Thesis and Product Description
How do natural disasters impact culture? My project explores this topic through the lens of many natural disasters, spanning countries, decades, and governmental responses. Natural disasters included in my research: 2015 Nepal earthquake, 2005 Hurricane Katrina, 2010 Haiti hurricane, and 2025 Hurricane Melissa, among others. I seek to explore first-hand accounts of these tragedies, contacting and interviewing survivors of natural disasters. In addition to my research paper, my second product is a slideshow presentation, shown and discussed with the club, Student Foundation, of which I am the president. This will be used to kick off our annual fundraiser for World Central Kitchen. For my third product, I created a "Field Guide" on the Japanese Namazu, a giant catfish that has been mythologized as the cause of earthquakes in Japan. Included in my guide are both a historical and cultural analysis and an annotated bibliography. Attached are my research paper, slideshow, and field guide.
