After the fall of ISIS, hundreds of thousands of people thought to be associated with the caliphate were detained in prisons, "rehabilitation centers," and makeshift camps. These makeshift camps, the main ones being al-Hol and Roj, still hold tens of thousands of women and their children. These women aren't necessarily ISIS fighters and commonly were detained for being brides of ISIS fighters. The camps are thought to be about 60% children.

The humanitarian abuses occurring in these camps are deplorable. The Kurdish forces controlling these camps don't have the resources to maintain them and are urging countries who have foreign nationals to repatriate their citizens. Many countries are refusing to repatriate their citizens and continue to subject the detainees of the camps to live in the sort of deprivation that allows extremism to flourish.
